Welcome to Chris Ellis Lighting

“Lighting design is the enhanced presentation of form and space….”

Chris formed the practice in 1997 after 28 years designing lighting for opera, drama and musical productions in London and abroad.

His aim is to offer a personal design service for church and museum projects that will benefit from an aesthetic approach alongside the technical.

A long time exponent of using new technology, since specifying a computer lighting system for the Leicester Haymarket Theatre in 1973, Chris is passionate about achieving a quality approach with the advantages that can be offered in LED lighting, without sacrificing the need for a purity of light quality and a proven reliability alongside the many ecological benefits.

In 2013, I successfully designed an interactive display cabinet for Derby Museum using both high quality LEDs from Light Projects and fibre optic systems from Roblon.

In the world of performance I designed the Mystery Plays in Chester Cathedral using a large LED rig from Chauvet Lighting and then a large scale opera production of “Noah’s Fludde” in Lowestoft Church using the latest wash lights from Robe Lighting.
